The Making Nice concept was born from the philosophy that even though things usually aren’t perfect, with a little effort they can be made better, prettier, more meaningful…nicer. Selby’s goal is to offer whimsy, polish, curiosity and perspective to the world of flowers, gifting, finishing touches and design.

Selby spent his childhood summers on his grandparents’ farm in rural Arkansas, always helping in the garden. Great importance was placed on using what the earth was providing, which left an impression that remains evident in his design style. Selby would regularly stage flower shows for neighbors and was allowed to pick all his Mamaw's flowers to play 'flower shop' with her vases, instilling a deep appreciation for ceramics and glass, and an interest in using non-traditional vessels to create. He strives to continue that farm legacy, bringing the natural, the local, the found, and the unexpected to his work.
Selby has spent the past 15 years in the luxury floral industry, tackling retail management, account management, wholesale business-to-business and design. He also carries a BSE in communication and formal education and training in Interior Design (NYIAD). Selby is a skilled developer of custom experiences and has conceptualized large-scale faux and holiday installations in both residential and destination-corporate settings. Selby is passionate about breaking design 'rules', creating whimsy wherever possible, and adding polish, curiosity and perspective to the world of flowers, gifting, finishing touches and design.
